Winter 2022/23: Guiding Light

The week-long winter workshop in December 2022 gave space to both staff and participants to end the year with God, our guiding light, at the center.

As 2022 was nearing its end and the last leaves fell to the ground, the spirits of reflection and introspection naturally filled up the air. With one chapter coming to a close and another about to begin, it was in fact very important to bring closure to both the good and the bad, and set our sights on new horizons in search of greater growth and development.

Each day had its own focus which helped us discover more about our internal light.

How do we experience sunlight?
It’s warm, it embraces us, it gives us vitamin D which supports immune health and a balanced mood.
At a workshop we often experience this sunlight coming from staff and participants - we experience the warm embrace of our brothers and sisters and the joy that we create together. All of it is based on relationships.
What are lighthouses used for?
They are known for marking dangerous coastlines and safe entries to harbors, but they also assist in aerial navigation through their strong light. It guides and illuminates the path for sailors.
When showered with light, we all see a shadow behind us. When showered with God’s light and love, this shadow behind us is made up of our past mistakes, our struggles with purity, our traumatic experiences and even the problems we face in the present moment. We naturally try to hide it all behind us, but True Parents explain that “when the mind and body become one, the shadow disappears.”
Light energy is a form of electromagnetic radiation. Always moving at a constant, very high speed, its wavelength defines the type or color of the light.
Energy is also found between the members of a team, especially when there is a common goal, a challenge to complete, or shared values that manifest themselves through the members being together. Just like light energy can appear in different colors, a team is also made up of different personalities that are all beautiful.
Energy naturally appears between two people of the opposite genders. Thanks to this, beautiful brother-sister friendships can form, and wonderful marriages, families can be created. However, wrong timing and usage of this energy can manifest in impure thoughts and action.
If we think of God as our guiding light, and remember the fact that God had created us in his image, then that means we can also shine light and become guiding lights. We are then capable of illuminating the way for ourselves and others - how amazing is that? We are all flashlights!
However, we cannot just become such guiding lights by simply turning the ON button. To become light sources, we first need to align ourselves with and be like the original guiding light.
